Bay Area native Lori Carsillo comes from a very musical family, and from a young age studied the classical repertoire and opera. But exposure to singers such as Nancy Wilson and Julie London and to instrumentalists such as Miles Davis and Bill Evans opened her ears to jazz.

Lori made her debut as a jazz vocalist auspiciously at the Palo Alto Jazz Festival, singing with the Menlo-Atherton High School Jazz Band. (She was the band's first-ever vocalist: it seems that she talked her way into an all-instrumental ensemble; it's probable that the leader of the band, local legend Frank Mauro, liked that not only did she have gumption, but she also sang really well.) After opening for Carmen McRae and Tuck & Patti, they played the Reno Jazz Festival and at both the North Sea and the Umbria Jazz Festivals, as well as at other European locations.

Lori honed her performance chops over the years via both clinics and the essential audience reaction to live performances. She spent over a decade as the vocalist "Lola Bombay" for Project: Pimento, a 60s-style lounge exotica band—with added theremin!—exploring Henry Mancini, James Bond themes, and Burt Bacharach tunes, among other things.

Lori has issued several CDs. The earliest, "Bittersweet", was inspired by Ran Blake and Jeanne Lee: it's very spare and quite beautiful. It was followed by, first, a recording of Cole Porter music, then "Lullabies for Little Dreamers", and "Sugar and Smoke", all with the very best Bay Area players. Her latest recording is "A Dream or Two".
