  • On Saturday, June 28,2025, Dick Conte and Michael Burman announced their retirement from the airwaves of KCSM JAZZ 91. We respect their decision and thank them for decades of service to our on-air community and the College of San Mateo.Starting in July you will be hearing new but familiar voices in their time slots. While it is impossible to replace the passion and knowledge Dick and Michael brought to JAZZ 91 we wish them health and happiness into their retirement years.

  • Oscar Peterson was one of the most prolific and popular pianists in the history of jazz. On Part 1 of The Oscar Peterson Trio w/ Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen, 1959-64 / O.P. @ 100, we’ll be celebrating Oscar’s Centennial with recordings the trio made for Verve between 1959 and 1962, including the albums The Jazz Soul Of Oscar Peterson , West Side Story and Affinity.
  • Jools Holland – Part 2. British blues and boogie pianist, Jools Holland has collaborated with everyone from Sting to Eric Clapton to Norah Jones after jumping into a musical career at the age of fifteen with the band, Squeeze. Jools is a popular TV and radio presenter as well and his BBC Television show, Later with Jools Holland has been on air in one form or another since 1992. I had so much fun with Jools that we kept going for this two-part conversation which was recorded in his London home in June 2017. He talked about his varied career and his most recent CD at the time, Piano.

  • Todd Marcus and Virginia MacDonald. Todd Marcus’ straight-ahead bass clarinet playing has carved out a unique voice for the instrument in modern jazz. His music swings hard with both a fiery and introspective intensity but also maintains a strong lyrical sensibility. Marcus’ compositions draw largely on straight-ahead jazz and classical influences but over recent years have also increasingly explored the Middle-Eastern sounds from his Egyptian-American heritage. Todd is joined by Toronto based clarinetist Virginia MacDonald. A lauded clarinetist in her own right, Virginia has performed and composed on over a dozen Juno Award winning albums and helps lead the Canadian Jazz Collective. Featuring Eric Kennedy on Drums, Steven Arnold on Bass, Hannah Mayer on Piano, Virginia MacDonald on Clarinet and Todd Marcus on Bass Clarinet, Daniel Peck is your host for the Todd Marcus Quintet featuring Virginia MacDonald – Live at the Bop Stop.

Mass Choir, backing artists from Elvis to Patti LaBelle, the influence of their father Sam McCrary of the Fairfield Four, and their new album, "Love is the Only Key.
  • Step Rideau & The Zydeco Outlaws are fan favorites throughout the country and abroad. Career highlights include performances at the 2012 Presidential Inauguration, Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center. They have graced the stage with artists from various genres including; Gladys Knight, Morris Day & The Time, George Clinton, Bobby Blue Bland, Eli Young Band, and Mingo Salvivar to name a few.
  • Velma Valoria, the first Filipino American and First Asian American to be elected to the Washington State Legislature is this week’s guest. Valerie’s discussion will focus on the topic, “Human Trafficking in an Era of Globalization Forced Labor: Involuntary Servitude and Corporate, Civic Responsibility”.
