This week’s show features two segments with two fun and phenomenal drummers Akira Tana and Airto Moreira. First up is a visit with Brazil’s export Airto Moreira who came into prominence working with Chick Corea’s Return to Forever and Miles Davis. The second half finds us visiting with the multifaceted Akira Tana who has worked with dozens of greats who include Sonny Rollins, James Moody and Lena Horne.

Jack McDuff with Dick Conte
The prolific organist Jack McDuff was a leading figure in the hard bop and soul jazz era of the 1960’s who made dozens of soulfully swinging records for Prestige. He started out in Chicago as a bass player working with Denny Zeitlin and Joe Farrell before gaining attention with Willis “Gator” Jackson and signing with Prestige Records.
