Richard Seidel is a Grammy Award-winning jazz record producer, music executive, archivist and historian, whose credits go back almost half a century.

Richard has seen and heard it all. He began his career in 1970 as the curator of the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University, the world's largest jazz archive. In 1972, he moved to Boston, and became jazz and popular music editor of the Schwann catalog.

In Los Angeles from 1979 through '82, Richard played a significant role in reviving Contemporary Records. Thereafter he returned to New York area, where he became the creative head of Verve Records.

Over the next 20 years at Verve, Richard signed Shirley Horn, Joe Henderson, Betty Carter, Charlie Haden, John Scofield, Christian McBride, Regina Carter, Bobby Hutcherson and many others, while overseeing dozens of other projects. During his tenure there, Verve became the world's number-one jazz label.

Richard has also produced over 300 archival projects for Verve, Sony/Legacy, Rhino, and Fantasy, Several of these projects were named Best Historical Album by DownBeat, JazzTimes or the Jazz Journalists Association.
