|Maya Kronfeld and Valerie Troutt (2015)|
|Maya Kronfeld is a rhythm-driven keyboardist born in Berkeley to a drummer father and a literature professor mother
Maya was one of the SFJAZZ All-Stars before graduating with a double major in philosophy and comparative literature from UC Berkeley, where she's currently a fourth-year PhD student in the Department of Comparative Literature. Somehow she finds time to teach and to play music.
One of the people with whom Maya makes music is her musical soul-mate, vocalist Valerie Troutt, who was likewise born in the Bay Area,
Valerie is a long-time artist, teacher and activist, for whom art and activism are intertwined. After coming up through Berkeley High, she took off to New York City, and spent a brief period abroad as a jazz ambassador, before returning home.
Valerie was recently a featured vocalist with Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir on "Still We Rise, Still We Sing".
Both Maya and Valerie are powerful voices in our community of music liberation.
