Pianist-composer Edward Simon was born into a musical family in a small coastal town in Venezuela. He graduated from the Philadelphia Performing Arts School at age 15, got a musical scholarship from that city's University of the Arts, majoring in classical piano, and eventually transferred to the Manhattan School of Music.

Edward has been an important presence on the jazz music scene for over two decades, worked with a long list of famous names, including Greg Osby, Jerry Gonzales, Bobby Hutcherson, Bobby Watson, Kevin Eubanks, Paquito D'Rivera, and Terence Blanchard.

1994 was a big year for Edward. He was a finalist in the Thelonious Monk Piano Competition (of which he says it was "my first and last competition … it's not my kind of thing.") And he released his first recording as a leader later that same year.

2010 was another big year for Edward. He was named a Guggenheim Fellow, and joined the SFJAZZ collective.
