| Bill Horvitz (2009) | |
|---|---|
| Bill Horvitz has been stretching the boundaries of guitar music since the early 1970s. He has performed in and led many ensembles both large and small. As a guitarist he fuses traditional and extended techniques in a most inventive way and has worked in a wide variety of settings. His long experience in the realms of jazz, rock, classical, folk, and new music have resulted in an original compositional voice--one that is forceful and innovative, yet always intelligently accessible. Over the years, he has collaborated with a long list of composers and improvisers, both in the SF Bay Area and New York City.
He currently leads the Bill Horvitz Expanded Band, a 17-piece band performing all original compositions that are highly arranged and include conducted improvisation. He is one half of TONE BENT, a duo in which he and his wife, composer, guitarist, and singer, Robin Eschner, double up on vocals and guitars, performing their original songs as well as occasional covers given a slant. Their CD, Say What You Will, was released in the fall of 2008, and the next recording is underway. Bill also leads and has recorded two CDs, Dust Devil and The Disappearance with the Bill Horvitz Band, featuring Steve Adams on woodwinds and either Joseph Sabella or Harris Eisenstadt on drums; has recorded an album of solo acoustic guitar pieces, called Tuolumne Songs; and has composed music for theater, dance, film, and spoken word. |
