Native San Franciscan Jayn Pettingill is both a librarian and a jazz disk jockey, and has been active on the local scene for over three decades.

As a youngster listening to her mother's big-band record collection, Jayn became keenly acquainted with the sound of Marshall Royal, lead alto for the Count Basie band.

Jayn got her B.A. in music at Mills College, and later a M.M. in jazz pedagogy and performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She's studied with Anthony Braxton and Victor Morosco, and learned a lot from the less formal time she spent with Frank Morgan. Somehow she also found time to get a master's degree in Library Science.

This combination of talents and experience made Jayn the perfect fit as an intern for "Jazz with Bob Parlocha". Building on that background, Jayn has been on air at KCSM-FM since 2015, and became the Monday host for "A Morning Cup of Jazz" at the turn of this year.
