A decade or so ago, Bay Area native Jarrett Cherner was described by jazz journalist Andy Gilbert as "one of the most exciting young pianist-composers on the Bay Area scene". His contemporary trio release "Burgeoning" garnered him an ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award.

Since those days, Jarrett has earned concurrent degrees at Tufts (B.S., Mathematics) and the New England Conservatory (Jazz Piano Performance), where he studied with Danilo PĂ©rez, Jerry Bergonzi, and Michael Cain, among others.

After a brief period home in the Bay Area, Jarrett moved back east to New York City in 2008 to pursue graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music.

Jarrett was a semifinalist at the 2011 Montreux Jazz Piano Competition, and performed solo at the Whitney Museum as part of the 2012 BLEED residency of Jason Moran, one of his teachers at the Manhattan School of Music.

Now growing into a master teacher in his own right, Jarrett's most recent recording is "Expanding Heart".
