Singer-songwriter Lizz Wright was born in a small town in Georgia, the daughter of a minister and a musical director. As a kid, she started singing gospel music and playing piano, and got interested in blues and jazz.

Lizz attended Georgia State University to study singing, and then her love of music took her to the New School in New York City, and on to Vancouver, BC.

Having signed a contract with Verve records in 2002, Lizz's first recording, "Salt", came out the next year. Then followed "Dreaming Wide Awake" in 2005, "The Orchard" in 2008, and "Fellowship" in 2010—each one critically acclaimed. With each recording, she explores anew her roots—gospel, contemporary R&B—remaining true to the story she tells.

Lizz is no one- or two-trick pony: she's also a great cook. She went to culinary school, and her sound is akin to the conjuring of a great recipe: she knows what to add and what to omit to make the best soul food.
