|Tommy Igoe (2014)|
|Tommy Igoe was born to be a drummer. The son of Sonny Igoe, who toured with the big bands in the late 1940s and into the 1950s with the likes of Benny Goodman, Ina Ray Hutton and Benny Goodman, Tommy started drumming at age two. But he really got going when he won a Buddy Rich drum contest, which was full circle given that Sonny and Buddy were close friends.
Born in New Jersey (just like his dad), Tommy has traveled the world with Art Garfunkel, Blood Sweat and Tears, Dave Grusin, Stanley Jordan, The New York Voices. He started the Birdland Big Band in New York City 2006, and now does the same thing here in the Bay Area, weekly at Yoshi's San Francisco, traveling back and forth as necessary.
In his "spare time", Tommy has produced a series of music education books and DVDs, and he regularly gives clinics and private education.
