|Scotty Barnhart (2013)|
|Atlanta-born Scotty Barnhart is a two-time Grammy-winning trumpeter, composer and educator. He's also the author of "The World of Jazz Trumpet: A Comprehensive History and Practical Philosophy".
For over 20 years, Scotty has been a featured soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra. He's appeared on critically acclaimed recordings with Marcus Roberts and a dozen more: he's recorded with Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Ray Charles, Clark Terry, Tito Puente, and too many more to name. What's more, he's performed at least once at probably every major concert hall and festival in the world.
Scotty is a graduate of Florida A&M University, and is professor of jazz trumpet at Florida State, which is one reason why he divides his home base between Los Angeles and Tallahassee. (When he's not touring, that is, which he does a lot. At the time of his being cast away on the desert island, he had just returned from Singapore, and was appearing in the Bay Area before going up to Oregon for the 30th anniversary celebrations at Monette trumpets.)
Scotty's current band is the Clifford Brown-Max Roach project.
