|Remy Le Boeuf (2013)|
|Saxophonist-composer Remy Le Boeuf began playing in public with his identical twin brother, Pascal, at the local Farmers' Market—something that seems so natural for Santa Cruz, California, where they grew up.
Remy moved to New York City in 2004 to attend the Manhattan School of Music. (In fact, when he and his brother left, they received a big musical send-off as they were already top-flight performers.) He got first his Bachelor's and then his Master's from Manhattan, while also studying—albeit unofficially—philosophy and anthropology at Columbia University.
Remy has won countless awards, and has toured internationally and nationally, playing at Monterey, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Jazz at Lincoln Center—and he's still only 26 years old.
The Le Boeuf Brothers' first release, "House Without a Door" heralded them as serious composers, with sophisticated harmonies, textures, and shifting time. Their second, "In Praise of Shadows", fused more modern jazz with great melodies, use of electronics, and, again, compositions. Their current project is "A Dream: The Musical Imagination of Franz Kafka".
