|Rory Snyder (2011)|
|Saxophonist and educator Rory Snyder was born in Iowa city, Iowa (New York is not the only city so good they named it twice), but his qualifications and experience are from much further west.
Rory has a B.A. from UCLA, and a Masters in Music from the University of Northern Colorado. He is currently Director of Jazz Studies at Diablo Valley College, and for 16 years was Band Director at Homestead High School and Jazz Director at Santa Clara University.
For years, Rory has been in demand as a jazz adjudicator, clinician and guest artist, and has been part of the Mike Vax Jazz Orchestra, and Dave Eshelman's Jazz Garden Big Band.
As a busy sideman, Rory has worked dates with artists from all parts of the spectrum, such as Clark Terry, Johnny Mathis, The Smothers Brothers, Don Menza, The Temptations, and Toshiko Akiyoshi & Lew Tabackin.
At DVC, Rory produced two excellent recordings with his Night Band, one with Phil Woods (he just might be Phil's biggest fan, with a collection of over 150 recordings), and one with Toshiko. And as leader of a small group, is "New York Sessions", featuring Michael Woolf and Wallace Roney, came out in 1999.
