| Drummer Paul van Wageningen was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory before moving to New York City in order be closer to the American scene. Since he moved to the Bay Area in 1979, he’s been a member of innumerable groups, including those of Andy Narell, Pete Escovedo, and Ray Obiedo, as well as being part of Mark Levine and the Latin Tinge, and John Santos and the Machete Ensemble. He also works outside the jazz and Afro-Cuban scene, appearing on recordings across a wide range of genres, among them blues, inside, outside, free jazz, rock, pop, funk … the list is endless. On some of those recordings he shares rhythm duties with his bassist brother Marc, with whom he co-leads the VW Brothers Band. |
