| Violinist, composer and educator India Cooke performs nationally and internationally in a wide variety of settings: doing improv, jazz, classical, be it inside or outside.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, she has played with everyone from Cecil Taylor and Pharoah Sanders to Sun Ra and George Lewis. As one of Northern California?s premier contract players, she has performed as featured soloist with Joe Williams, Louie Bellson, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan and Ray Charles. Her Debut album as a leader in 1997, ?Redhanded?, was a Grammy nominee. She was Artist-in-Residence at the San Francisco School for the Arts, and currently teaches at the SF Community Music Center, at Mills College, and privately. |
