|Kathleen Grace (2008)|
|Vocalist Kathleen Grace was born in Tucson, Arizona, and got her undergraduate degree at Tufts University near Boston, Massachusetts. Like so many before her, she was never going to go to Los Angeles; and, again like so many before her, she did go; in her case, the motivation was her plan to go to graduate school. Needing an accompanist for her audition to graduate school, she was lucky enough to be directed to pianist Tamir Hendelman, the very appearance of whom at her audition was of itself almost enough to guarantee her acceptance. Five years on, she is now on the other side of the desk, teaching alongside fellow vocalist Tierney Sutton at USC.
Kathleen’s first recording, “Sunrise”, featuring Tamir Hendelman, was described as “dreamy” and “luminescent”, and was voted by “Desert Island Jazz” producer Michael Burman as the fifth best jazz release of the year. Since then, she has released two more recordings. The second of these, “Mirror” comprises all originals and shows another side Kathleen in addition to her captivating voice.
