|Born in Brooklyn, New York, into a musical family, Dayna Stephens was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, attending the storied Berkeley High School and, after playing the saxophone at age 13, taking part in their jazz ensemble.
His formal musical education continued on a full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and then the Thelonious Monk Institute of jazz program located at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles.
Still a couple of weeks shy of his 30th birthday when he was cast away on the desert island, Dayna has already appeared with a who's who of musicians across the age range. Now based back in New York City, Dayna nonetheless gets "back home" to the Bay Area at least annually, including giving back some education at the Stanford Jazz Workshop.
