Dred Scott (2008)

Visit Website

Dred Scott has lived all over the US (born in Ohio, raised in St Louis, and back to Ohio for college), but he'll always call the San Francisco Bay Area home. Although a multi-instrumentalist, able to turn his hand to largely anything the situation requires (be it bass, "Chinese banjo", or you name it), it was as "an innovative and eclectic pianist" that he gained the reputation in the Bay Area that now serves him well in New York City (the city that never sleeps helps a musician with his cash flow).

Co-founder of the ground breaking hip-hop jazz group, Alphabet Soup, Dred has half a dozen recordings as a leader, and has performed on dozens of recordings by others, including Anthony Braxton, Don Byron, Andrew Cyrille, Charlie Hunter, Cecil McBee, Paul McCandless, Bob Mintzer and Joe Morello. His performance credits include Arlo Guthrie, Joe Henderson, Norah Jones, Ricky Lee Jones, Larry Schneider, Pete Seager, and fellow Bay Area transplant to NYC, Peter Apfelbaum.
