Mark Applebaum is Associate Professor of Composition and Theory at Stanford University, arriving there via graduate studies at UC San Diego after graduating from Carleton College.

Mark is also a jazz pianist. Further, he builds sounds sculptures, which are, as Mark puts it, "intended as visual art objects ... they're very beautiful ... made out of junk, and found objects and hardware, and mounted on electroacoustic soundboards; I improvise with chopsticks and knitting needeles and violin bows and plectra and wind-up toys."
