Jazz trumpeter Sarah Wilson performs out of Oakland. She was raised in Healdsburg and migrated to New York city near the start of her music career. After some years there she relocated back to California’s Bay Area. She performs and records now with her own quintet.
Sarah’s performances are largely her own written music. Her shows and releases have her trumpet and vocal work along with the quintet’s piano, horn, bass & drums. Her style ranges from sedate new age-like ballads to New Orleans jive, with good balance between the quartet players. Sarah appeared around year-end in Oakland at Yoshi’s and at Duende. She has a release scheduled this fall. Sarah will be on the air in a KCSM interview on “I’m talkin’ Jazz” Sunday 5/18 with Lee Thomas, and you can hear her story on coming into jazz with a trumpet.
