Save KCSM TV
KCSM NEEDS YOUR HELP!
For many years, San Mateo County’s Community College District has brought you KCSM-TV, your local public television station. But recent state budget cuts have put our future in jeopardy. Help us raise one million dollars by January 1st so we can continue to serve you as a member-supported educational public television station.
WHY YOU SHOULD CARE

KCSM broadcasts quality educational programming to a Bay Area audience of over 800,000 every week. We serve over 10,000 students at 26 community colleges around the Bay every semester through our distance learning telecourses. Many of these students are non-traditional learners who cannot attend traditional campus classes: working parents, disabled learners without transportation, the incarcerated, and stay-at-home moms. What they have in common is a desire to better their opportunities through education.
We are the only television training center in Northern California based in a full-power, professional broadcast station. We give the students enrolled in our Broadcast Program at College of San Mateo hands-on training preparing them to enter a highly competitive workforce.

Spotlight set viewed through camera
We produce and air award-winning, locally relevant programming. KCSM’s most recent production, Spotlight, The Series won a Telly Award in 2008. Local actors and industry professionals discuss their expertise in their respective fields with aspiring local high school students.

Our Spotlight High School Film Festival provides an opportunity for Bay Area high school students explore their creativity, and provides the spark that inspires them toward a future career. Our outreach into the high schools offers youth a voice within public television.
We give local, national, and international independent producers and students, a place to air their unique educational programming, making us a truly “independent” member-supported station.
